Mindfulness Tips for a More Mindful You

on January 12, 2020

After New Years, it seems everywhere starts to scream ‘new year, new you’ with all sorts of ways on how to change your body but here at FASHOM, we believe you are beautiful as you are. We all have room for improvement in ways however these need to be done for you and your peace of mind, not because you are trying to achieve something someone else is telling you that you should be trying to achieve. So, this month, we went around the office here and asked everyone what they would like to work on for themselves throughout this year. The number one answer we received was how to be more mindful at work.

As a start-up, it can be very hard to keep yourself in-check during the busier times of the day when you are overwhelmed with responsibilities and have to wear multiple hats but we put together some easy and practical tips on how to be a little more mindful whether its before, during, or after work:

1: Bring your attention to your breathing: Focusing on your breathing doesn’t mean you have to sit down and meditate each time but just taking attention away from our minds to breathe can lower stress and help center you. This can be done for even just 5 – 10 seconds a few times a day.*

2: Bring your attention to things around you: Stop and look at a plant or even a chair for a few seconds; this will break your thinking pattern and help reset it. Many of us here have used this technique when we feel like we might be hitting a wall with something or feel like we’re running low on ideas.*

3: Take short walking breaks: When possible, take a quick stroll around the office or outside and remove your thinking self from the environment. This is also an easy way to help get in a little movement throughout the day if you have been sitting or standing in one place for a long period of time.*

4: Meditate: If there are facilities like a break room or even a meeting room, you can take 5 or 10 minutes to do a quick meditation session even just before/after a lunch break. You can find a lot of short, guided meditation apps and videos on the web that you can follow as a daily practice. Here at FASHOM, we try to practice 10 -15 minutes together a few times a week.*

The idea of being mindful is not to stop thinking or to sit down and meditate for hours but to more so just disengage from a mindset that is only making us hit a wall or more frustrated so we can be more aware of life around us.

Surbhee was personally styled by Fashom. We wanted her style to say, “I’m a professional, but I’m fun and approachable as well.” And she certainly wanted something she could put together quickly – no time for elaborate dressing for this one! So we styled her in a classic and professional black A-line pleated skirt and nude flats with a strap. These staple pieces! We chose to show off Surbhee’s fun side with a cute floral blouse.

We speak through what we wear

on December 26, 2017

Clothes are not some pieces of material you cover your body with, it’s a complete language. You can say many things through what you are wearing. You can also tell too much about your personality, culture, religion, and even your profession through what you are wearing.

Nada is one of those people who cares about her style of dressing and about the message that she wants to send. She works as a financial advisor at a well-known firm in Connecticut. She told us that she loves the business casual style, she also loves shoes and long boots.

In the photoshoot, she appeared with a maroon dress, long black boots, and a black turban. Her style represents her profession as you can tell from the first look at her that she works in a bank or a job that is related to numbers. You can see that she cares about the small details through her photos.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Office Attire

on August 5, 2017

We all need help ensuring that our clothing colors match and don’t clash, so below Fahsom has provided five tips on how to mix and match perfectly.

One. Use a Color Wheel

The color wheel serves as a visual aid for individuals who need help seeing which colors compliment each other and which do not. When talking about “complimentary” colors, that actually means “opposite.” So, the wheel is quite simple to actually understand – the colors that are on the opposite side of each other are those that compliment each other the best. For Instance, orange and blue are complimentary colors…

Two. Know Your Color Palettes

Play it safe by mixing and matching colors that are in the same color palette. It’s pretty simple – mix earth tones with Earth tones, masculine tones with masculine tones and so forth. Pictured above is an example of Gretchen Jones, the winner of Project Runway Season 8, mixing and matching Earth tones with one another. Didn’t she do a beautiful job?!

Three. Black & ANY Color

Wearing all black, in general, is the best solution when you can’t seem to find anything to wear, but for some of us, that’s just a little too boring. Fashom suggests that when you’re in doubt, black out your outfit and add a splash of any color. Black goes with everything, so you’ll never go wrong.

Four. Find & Follow a Scheme

By following a color scheme, I mean find a piece of clothing, accessory or pair of shoes that you want to wear for the day and then base the rest of your wardrobe off that one color scheme. For instance, If you have a pair of heels you want to wear that day that consist of pink blue white and black, then choose an outfit with colors that will compliment your heels color scheme.

Five. Trust Yourself

Any outfit is going to look its best when you feel your best and have compliment confidence in the look. If an outfit you throw on doesn’t match, but you look in the mirror and still look FIRE, then trust your gut instinct and wear it. Pictured above is a range of Fall 2017 trends from major designers such as Marc Jobs, Valentino, and Lacoste.
